About Us...
Welcome to Red Canyon Ridge!
Thank you for visiting us. We are small scale, home-based breeders of the Gouldian Finch. We are located on five beautiful acres in Strathcona County, just east of Sherwood Park/Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and share our acreage with 4 dogs, 2 horses, 2 rabbits and many Gouldian Finches.
We have been breeding the Gouldian Finch for several years and do so in a colony aviary. Colony breeding does pose greater challenges over a more controlled caged breeding program but it is a very exciting way to breed these birds. Our birds are identified through leg banding and records are kept in order to ensure that breeding only occurs through unrelated pairings. All chicks are parent raised and not fostered out to Society finches.
Aside from breeding, the aviary also allows the Gouldians freedom for flight! We have raised a variety of colours - sometimes with interesting and wonderful surprises! Please see our other pages for photos from the aviary. Also see our "In The Nest" and "Gouldians For Sale" pages for new arrivals!
